The New Zealand Central Bank said on Sunday that one of the data systems has been violated by an unknown hacker who has the potential to access commercially and private sensitive information.

The Governor Adrian Orr said the violation was contained, and the bank’s core function “remained healthy and operational”.

“We work closely with domestic and international cybersecurity experts and other related authorities as part of our investigation and response to this evil attack,” Orr said.

“The nature and level of information that is potentially accessible is still determined, but it may include some commercial and personal sensitive information.”
