Political parties should not have secret alliances: Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD( REPORTBEAT )-A five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the presidential reference on Senate elections. The ECP lawyer replied that he had submitted a code of conduct for voters.

PPP leader Raza Rabbani, while initiating the arguments, said that the purpose of the Senate was to ensure equal representation of all the provinces. In a parliamentary system, the two houses never run by consensus. The party that forms the government in the federation does not have to have a majority in the province either. The alliance of opposition parties can also change the proportion of seats in the Senate, I will give a detailed position on the point of proportional representation.

Justice Omar Atabandial said that many times political parties also make adjustments with the parties of other provinces. Even if there is an inter-provincial alliance, why is it necessary to keep it secret?

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) counsel Raza Rabbani said the purpose to constitute the Senate was to provide equal representation to all provinces, and consensus between both houses in the parliamentarian system is not possible. The hearing was adjourned till Monday.
