The Opposition Alliance (PDM) has postponed the opposition’s long march after the PPP demanded a respite.
After a long meeting of the opposition alliance in Islamabad, PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced the postponement of the long march.
He said in a brief media briefing with the opposition leadership that nine out of 10 parties in the PDM alliance had agreed to resign during the long march.
Fazlur Rehman said that apart from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), all parties have agreed on giving resignations from assemblies. He said that PPP has sought more time for consultation on the issue. Therefore, PDM’s long march on March 26 should be considered postponed. With that announcement, Fazlur Rehman stormed off the dais and left the press conference.
Following his abrupt exit, Maryam Nawaz took the microphone and addressed the press conference.
Maryam said that during the meeting, Asif Zardari requested Mian Nawaz Sharif to come back to Pakistan and join the movement, to which she said that Nawaz Sharif has faced extremely adverse circumstances in jail, even suffering a heart attack during imprisonment.
