At least 28 Palestinians including 10 children have been martyred while scores injured as Israeli forces resorted to air strikes in Gaza.
The air raids were carried out after Hamas fired a barrage of rockets as a response to the attack on Al Aqsa mosque that left almost 152 Palestinians injured.
The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said at least 28 people were killed, including 10 children, and 152 others wounded in Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip, while Hamas has confirmed that one of its commanders lost his life in a strike.
Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, earlier Monday warned Israel to withdraw all its forces from the mosque compound and the east Jerusalem district of Sheikh Jarrah, where looming evictions of Palestinian families have fuelled angry protests.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell demanded that the “significant upsurge in violence” in the West Bank, in and near Gaza and in east Jerusalem “needs to stop immediately.
